International Academy of Mine Safety & Health (IAMSH)
- The IAMSH administers the Certified Mine Safety Professional (CMSP) credential. The CMSP certification was designed in 1991 by a group of mining health and safety professionals who were committed to developing a bond for mine safety practitioners with a focus on education, group learning, and fostering innovation to achieve new and effective safety methods. SME acquired the responsibility for the CMSP credential in 2016. The new CMSP certification expands the accredited Body of Knowledge to include safety and health issues.
Mine Safety and Technical Advisory Council (MSTAC)
- On January 11, 2008, the Mine Safety Commission established by Governor Jon Huntsman made 45 recommendations following their investigation into the Crandall Canyon mine disaster. One of those recommendations was to establish a safety round-table group that included members representing the interested parties in coal mine safety on Utah. The University of Utah provides active participants with the Council.
